Upper Eyelid Surgery Philadelphia

Uplift Your Spirits and Reclaim Your First Impression

You've likely heard the phrase, Eyes are the windows to your soul. It is easy to understand why this ancient proverb holds true to this day. In any language and in any circumstance, your eyes are vital to the first impression you make. Unfortunately, the delicate area around the eyes is often the first to show signs of aging, premature or otherwise. Additionally, excess skin can weigh down your upper eyelids, causing a droopy or tired appearance. In some cases, this sagging effect is pronounced enough to impede a person's vision.

For decades, Dr. Joseph A. Rabson has empowered men and women in the Philadelphia area to reclaim their first impression by performing blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery. There are two types of blepharoplasty procedures: upper eyelid surgery and lower eyelid surgery. For those seeking a more complete makeover, it is possible to combine this surgery with other facial cosmetic procedures. Whether your hope is to reverse the aging process or correct an unwanted defect, the highest-quality solution awaits you in the form of upper eyelid surgery at our practice serving Philadelphia and all of Montgomery County, the Advanced Cosmetic Surgery & Laser Center.

How Upper Eyelid Surgery Works

After a complete assessment of the patient's health, specific needs, and cosmetic goals, Dr. Rabson designs a custom upper eyelid surgery treatment plan at our spacious and private suburban Philadelphia facility. During the procedure, the surgeon meticulously removes excess skin above the eye area and raises the remaining skin to create a younger, more refreshed look. The goal is to correct or reduce sagging above the eye or puffiness around the eye due to fatty tissue. Scarring is kept to a barely-noticeable minimum; incisions are made discretely in the crease of the eyelid.

The Ideal Candidate for Upper Eyelid Surgery

Ideal candidates include men and women over the age of eighteen. Most patients who opt to have this blepharoplasty procedure are over the age of thirty-five. However, younger individuals with pronounced sagging eyelids may also qualify. As in any surgical procedure, Dr. Rabson first ensures the patient is in good physical and emotional health. Certain pre-existing conditions, such as glaucoma or dry-eye, may increase the risks associated with the procedure but may not necessarily disqualify a candidate entirely. Cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, hyperthyroidism, and diabetes are other medical conditions of concern. A history of thyroid disease may even limit the quality of the result.

Those considering undergoing upper eyelid surgery should set realistic expectations for the outcome. For instance, this particular procedure alone is not designed to smooth away the crow’s feet wrinkles around the eye area. This is best handled with BOTOX® injections.
