Neck Lift Procedure

A neck lift procedure is intended to restore the natural shape of the jaw line as well as reshape the neck so that it appears more elongated. Because it is a more focused treatment than a full face lift, the neck lift procedure is sometimes referred to as a "mini" lift. The procedure lasts from two to three hours and is generally performed as an outpatient surgery, meaning the patient can return home on the day of his or her treatment.

Depending on the scope of the neck lift procedure, liposuction may be utilized to achieve the desired results. If there is an abundance of fat that needs to be removed from the neck, incisions will be made behind the ears and underneath the chin. The excess fat will then be removed through the incisions with specialized equipment that is designed to minimize scarring, bruising, and damage to surrounding tissue. Removing the fat allows the skin to be pulled taught over the jaw structure for a more youthful, healthier appearance.

If the skin on the neck is loose and saggy but there is minimal excess fat, liposuction may not be necessary. In such cases, an incision is made underneath the chin so that the underlying muscle tissue can be tightened and the skin can be pulled tight and smooth. After the neck lift procedure is complete, the patient will likely be required to wear a compression garment during the healing process and may experience mild discomfort for a week or two.

Mini Neck Lift Procedure

A mini neck lift procedure is for patients who are at or near their target weight and who have minimal neck sagging. Because the procedure is intended to treat "trouble spots" that are resistant to exercise, the procedure is quick, and the healing process usually takes no more than a week. A mini neck lift procedure typically can be performed in less than one or two hours.

To perform a mini neck lift procedure, a small incision is made along the natural contours of the neck. The incisions are made along the natural contours so that any post-operative scarring is minimal and inconspicuous. Once the incisions have been made, underlying muscle tissue can be tightened, and excess skin and fat can be removed. A mini neck lift procedure can make a person appear years younger and is a great treatment for individuals who require only slight alterations to their appearance. Some people try to keep their costs down by asking for a mini-lift. However, a mini-lift is never appropriate if a full lift is really what is needed. This can only be determined through an actual examination or consultation.
