Dr. Joseph A. Rabson and our staff will aid you in making your recovery as pleasant as possible, helping you achieve your desired liposuction results. As with any medical procedure, recovery will take some time to yield your desired results. However Dr. Rabson and our staff will help expedite your liposuction recovery in our state-of-the-art Blue Bell Ambulatory Surgical Center, providing amazing results to the Philadelphia and Montgomery County areas.
Most patients will be required to wear a compression garment following liposuction surgery, usually for about two weeks. After liposuction you will be able to walk fine, but you still must make sure to have someone drive you home from the facility, and rest is a must for the first few days after surgery. Within a week of the liposuction procedure, most patients are able to move as they normally would, and most are even able to return to work. Usually discomfort and pain are minor, and can be helped with pain medication or simply walking around. Some patients may be startled with the drainage from their incisions during the first two days, but this is normal and to be expected. Most of the drainage is actually just the tumescent solution that was administered during the procedure. The drainage actually helps the healing process and reduces recovery time. Just weeks after the liposuction, most patients feel well enough to remove the compression garment. While recovery time varies from patient to patient, most people return to their normal routines within two weeks after their liposuction procedure. Swelling will continue to subside over the months following liposuction.
In some cases, the results of the liposuction procedure can be seen immediately following surgery, as up to ten pounds of fat may have been removed. While liposuction may dramatically improve your overall appearance, in other cases, the results may not be immediately noticeable. Results may seem minimal at first because of some bruising and swelling. These eventually subside, revealing the final beautiful result. After about three months, virtually all of the swelling should be gone, and by six months the skin may also be somewhat tighter. If the patient has poor elasticity (already very loose skin), the skin will not be tighter after the procedure and in some cases may even be looser. Dr. Rabson will give you an honest opinion of what you should expect based on your actual examination. Dr. Rabson and our team make sure our liposuction patients in the Philadelphia and Montgomery County areas get the necessary recovery needed and the results desired.
