We perform a variety of facelift procedures at our suburban Philadelphia practice because we understand that our patients have diverse and varied needs. At the Advanced Cosmetic Surgery & Laser Center, we are committed to helping our patients achieve their cosmetic goals, and feel that offering an extensive range of procedures is one of the best ways to do so. If you are interested in undergoing a facelift procedure, whether to help counter the signs of aging or because you are looking to revitalize your image, Dr. Joseph Rabson and the staff at our Montgomery County plastic surgery center can help! In addition to standard facelift surgery, Dr. Rabson also performs the following facelift procedures at our Philadelphia-area practice:

Lower (Standard) Facelift and Neck Lift

A lower facelift is a procedure to rejuvenate and lift the bottom third of the face. With aging, the face's underlying muscle and fat tissues begin to sag. Combined with skin that loses elasticity over time, men and women find they slowly develop jowls, hollowing of cheeks, and loose or fleshy necks. A lower facelift (especially when paired with a neck lift) can help reverse this process and provide you with a more youthful, energetic appearance.

The lower facelift procedure can be performed more than one way, but typically involves making an incision that extends from the front to the bottom of the ear. Incisions can sometimes be extended into the temple or behind the ear. Working though these incisions, Dr. Rabson separates the skin from the underlying tissue and removes or repositions fat. Once this has been completed, he can tighten the deeper tissues, the neck muscle, and can pull back the skin, suturing it in place once it has been smoothed and rid of any excess. Though the technique is similar to that of other facelift procedures, the placement of the incisions means only the lower face is affected.

Mid Facelift

Individuals who are interested in restoring fatigued and droopy lower eyelids, sagging or hollow cheeks, or dramatic nasal folds can benefit greatly from a mid facelift. The procedure allows Dr. Rabson to tighten the deeper tissue under the cheeks and eyes as well as remove or reposition excess fat, which helps correct or dramatically reduce the effects of aging. Like a lower facelift, the procedure is localized to the area of greatest concern for the patient.

Depending on the patient, one of two primary techniques can be utilized to complete a mid facelift procedure: the doctor can perform the facelift through incisions in the lower lash line, which helps hide any scarring, or through two incisions in the temples, in which the doctor will perform the procedure endoscopically (via a small camera). Both procedures are effective at meeting the aesthetic goals of the patient.

Mini Facelift

A mini facelift, or "weekend" facelift as it is sometimes called, is a less invasive procedure that involves making small incisions around the specific area to be treated. Once these incisions have been made, Dr. Rabson can remove excess fat, tighten the muscle tissue, and firm up the skin to eliminate or reduce signs of aging. Because of the less invasive nature of this procedure, potential facelift risks and complications are minimized, the facelift recovery time is typically shorter, and patients often find it to be a more financially viable solution. However, it is important to recognize that most patients would benefit from a more complete procedure that produces longer lasting results.

MACS-Lift or Minimal Incision Facelift

The minimal incision facelift, also known as the short-scar facelift or MACS-Lift, is a technique invented by Dr. Tonnard and Dr. Verpaele of Belgium. The procedure repositions skin and tissue to provide the patient with a more youthful appearance, but is specifically designed to reduce or nearly eliminate scarring. By placing the incisions in the temporal hair or along the temporal hairline and extending them downwards in front of the earlobe, scarring behind the ears is eliminated and visible scarring is masked by the patient's hair. One to three sutures are placed on each side to pull up on the neck, jowl, or midface, deep inside and suspended to a higher level. It is an excellent procedure, blending effectiveness with safety. If you are interested in a MACS-Lift, Dr. Rabson can see if you are a good candidate.
