Blepharoplasty Candidates

Ideal candidates for eyelid surgery include men and women who are in satisfactory physical and emotional health. Most individuals who undergo eyelid surgery are over the age of 35; however, younger patients who are predisposed to droopy or puffy eyelids may also benefit from the procedure.

Blepharoplasty patients should have realistic expectations regarding the outcome of the surgery. While blepharoplasty may effectively correct upper eyelid sagging and smooth the appearance of under-eye bags, it is not designed to smooth wrinkles around the eyes or diminish dark circles. Those who wish to reduce the prominence of crow's feet may wish to consider BOTOX® treatments.

The presence of certain medical conditions may also preclude an individual from undergoing eyelid surgery. Ophthalmological conditions such as glaucoma and dry eye may dramatically increase the risks of the procedure, as can cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, hyperthyroidism, and diabetes.

The Eyelid Surgery Procedure

Dr. Rabson designs custom eyelid surgery treatment plans based on each patient's specific needs and cosmetic goals. Blepharoplasty procedures are typically one of two basic types:

Upper Eyelid Surgery

During upper eyelid surgery, Dr. Rabson removes sagging skin and lifts the remaining skin to produce a more youthful and refreshed appearance. Because incisions are discretely placed in the crease of the eyelid, visible scarring is kept to a minimum.

Lower Eyelid Surgery

Lower eyelid surgery involves the removal of excess skin and fat deposits that make the eyes appear baggy or puffy. For patients who have hollowed areas beneath their eyes, Dr. Rabson may transfer fat to the depressed regions in order to create a smoother, younger look.
