Slenderizing Tummy Tuck Surgery in Plymouth Meeting and Montgomery County

Flattening a protruding tummy can be a frustrating challenge when the problem area does not respond to diet and exercise. With tummy tuck surgery, or abdominoplasty, at our Plymouth Meeting practice, individuals in Montgomery County, King of Prussia, Wayne, and surrounding areas of Pennsylvania can finally achieve their appearance goals. By removing excess skin and tightening the stomach muscles, Dr. Joseph A. Rabson gives patients the abdominal profile they desire.

Abdominoplasty Candidates

Tummy tuck surgery is best suited to individuals who are in good general health but who are bothered by loose skin around the abdominal area, a protruding tummy, or weak or separated abdominal muscles. This is common in women who have experienced pregnancy and in those who have lost a significant amount of weight. During a private consultation with Dr. Rabson, patients are encouraged to discuss their goals for tummy tuck surgery openly and honestly. After taking into account an individual's body type and aesthetic goals, Dr. Rabson can determine whether abdominoplasty can meet his or her unique needs. Dr. Rabson may also recommend other procedures, such as liposuction, that may be more suitable for the patient or can be combined with tummy tuck surgery to produce his or her desired results.

The Tummy Tuck Procedure

The specific details of the abdominoplasty procedure depend upon each patient's physical needs and appearance goals. For a patient whose problem area is localized primarily in the lower abdomen, Dr. Rabson may perform a partial abdominoplasty, or mini tummy tuck. For those with loose skin and fat deposits that extend as far up as the bottom of the rib cage, a full abdominoplasty may be indicated.

Typically, Dr. Rabson begins the tummy tuck procedure by making a horizontal incision just above the pubic area. With full abdominoplasty, a second incision is made encircling the navel. After the skin has been carefully separated from the underlying muscles and tissue, Dr. Rabson removes excess fat and tightens the abdominal muscles. When performing a full abdominoplasty, he creates a new hole for the navel. Then he trims away any excess skin, smoothes the remaining skin, and closes the incisions.
